"An audition monologue is a marketing tool. Its main purpose is to help get you an acting job or an agent. But finding just the right one can be very frustrating. All of the monologues in this book were put through a tough developmental process utilizing the actors, directors and playwrights of several playwriting groups I belong to. I'd bring the monologues in each night, watch the actors read them, and then take notes on the feedback. Next I'd do any necessary rewrites. Then I'd bring the rewrites back to those groups. If they got a thumbs up - THEN I'd put them in a pile of pieces that might go into the book"--

Glenn Alterman has created a great collection of monologues for men and women, ranging in tone from dramatic to comedic to serio-comedic, covering topical subjects and introducing suggestions for choosing and presenting the right one for audition. The pieces are all developed after workshops with several theatre companies and playwrighting groups. These monologues are passionate, colorful, original.
